Well as per usual this is all over the place. Track by track: This track is by a local (Rhode Island) rapper, pretty slamming beat...A relatively new track by my friends band the gambees (http://myspace.com/beatsthatgothump) recorded by yours truly. My favorite aphex twin song. This fugazi song interested me, apparently 12 arrangements of it exist and it was originally named cause Ian couldn't think of how to fix it, but the lyrics refer to the perception of him as an indestructible public figure when in reality he has feelings. Emperor X is some guy from the midwest that knows his way around a 4-Track. I'm a sucker for sappy country influenced music, so deal with it ahahah. Xiu Xiu is stereotyped as a "Critics Pet" band and I would agree with that but I also contend that this song is quite fantastic. This nas song is great, it sounds like pure desperation in lyrical form. This may be aesop rocks best song, it's about when he was suicidal. His song "Battery" from Labor Days tells parts of the story, but in a far more abstract manner. It is cool to listen to it in that context though. Jandek is known for his fucked up take on folk and blues, but his acapella work is hauntingly excellent as well. Jack Rose is one of the best solo guitarists around today, if you have the chance to see him live go for it!
